CHALLENGE
The magazine theme must have longevity for at least a year’s worth of issues and able to be extended into a variety of media markets. Single-handedly designing an entire magazine from cover to cover meant the constraints of longform design were uniquely challenging: staying consistent in style across articles, and developing a cover, table of contents, and masthead that felt cohesive.

SOLUTION
I created and curated visually compelling imagery in line with the issue’s color theme. Dense longform articles, standard fare for academic science journals, needed interesting tidbits, pull quotes, and graphics to keep my reading audience engaged. Throughout the publication, I balanced saturated, detailed color fields, bold typography, and busy patterns photography with ample negative space to allow the eye to rest.
